HOW IT WORKS.

What is Women’s Health and Pelvic Physiotherapy?

Our women’s health physiotherapy supports you through every stage—pregnancy, postnatal recovery, and beyond. We can help with pelvic floor concerns, core strength, C-section recovery, bladder or bowel issues, and pain related to pregnancy, sexual intercourse, or menopause.

Whether you’re preparing for birth, healing after having a baby, or simply want to feel confident in your body, we’ll create a personalised plan to help you move well, prevent long-term issues, and feel your best.

  • C-section scar, tearing or episiotomy pain, tightness, or slow healing

Initial Assessment – During Pregnancy

We can begin during pregnancy to prepare your body for birth and the postnatal journey. You’ll learn how to keep your body strong, protect your pelvic floor, and understand what to expect after birth.

Postnatal Assessment (8 weeks onwards) – 1 Hour

We’ll discuss your symptoms and goals, then complete a full-body evaluation to identify the cause of any pain or dysfunction. Treatment begins right away.

Follow-up Sessions (around 12 weeks postpartum) – 1 Hour

We’ll track your progress and adapt your programme to ensure ongoing recovery and strength.

Final Review (around 20 weeks postpartum) – 1 Hour

We’ll reassess, provide treatment, and plan the best way forward for long-term recovery and confidence.

How It Works – Other Pelvic Conditions

For concerns not related to birth, such as menopause or weakened pelvic floor

Initial Assessment – 1 Hour

We’ll discuss your symptoms and goals, followed by a full-body evaluation. If indicated, an internal vaginal assessment may be offered to accurately assess whether internal structures are contributing to your symptoms. Treatment begins at your first session.

Follow-up Sessions

These are tailored to your needs and progress, ensuring you get the right support at the right time.

FAQs

Do I need an internal vaginal assessment?

Not always. Sometimes an internal assessment helps us clearly understand what’s happening with your pelvic floor muscles. But this is only ever done with your full consent, and only if it feels right for you. If you’d rather not, that’s absolutely fine—we can still learn a lot from external assessment and build a tailored plan that works for you.

Can I book if I am pregnant?

Yes, definitely. Many women find it really helpful to start during pregnancy. Our Mommy MOT programme can prepare your body for birth and recovery, so that when your baby arrives, your body already knows what to do. Think of it as setting yourself up for a smoother, stronger postpartum journey.

I have never had children but still have problems. Can I still come for an assessment?
Absolutely. Pelvic health issues don’t only happen after pregnancy. We support women through many different conditions—such as hypermobility, menopause, post-hysterectomy changes, or pain related to sexual trauma. Whatever your story, you deserve support and there are always options we can explore together.

Do I need a referral to book an appointment?

No—you don’t need a referral. You can book directly with us. Many of our clients self-refer because they want support quickly and personally.

What should I wear to my appointment?
Anything comfortable. Most people choose leggings, joggers, or clothes they can move in easily. If an internal assessment is recommended, I’ll guide you through the process gently, explain everything clearly, and make sure you feel safe and in control throughout.

How soon will I see results?
This is different for everyone, but many women start noticing improvements after just a few sessions. It depends on your body, your symptoms, and your goals. We’ll set realistic milestones together so you feel supported every step of the way.

Is it normal to feel nervous before my first appointment?
Yes—many women feel this way, especially if it’s their first time talking about pelvic health. Please know you’re not alone, and you’ll be welcomed into a safe, supportive environment where everything is explained clearly and nothing is ever rushed.
